Post-Production: Editing

   Editing is a very difficult process to do, which for me has been one of the hardest things to do. Me and my partner have been making some new changes to our almost finished film. This required me to change little things, but it still takes a long time. Here are some things we changed:

  • We added a different background music. We found a different sound that we felt it sounded scarier and flowed better with our movie.
  • Adding more credits.
  • Removing the news report scene, this scene caused our storyline to change a little bit.
  • We replaced the news report scene to make Jessica run back home and explain to her mom what just happened. 
  • We changed our hook to show the killer opening the door to Jessica's house. This scene required me to add sound effects of a door opening and turning up the volume for the background music.

What I mean by this is that it is easier to find out the meaning of a media text or a post. Final Film

 Hello everyone,    Here is the final version of my opening film. Creating this movie has been a lot of fun and educational at the same time. I am so grateful I got the chance to learn many things about the filmmaking process that I can even use in my daily life.  Me and my partner worked really hard to make this film, so I hope you enjoy it.

Preliminary Exercise 1: Barthes’ Theory of Denotative and Connotative Signs Semiotic Analysis Table

 Hello everyone,    During Media Studies class, I have been learning about semiotics. Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and what they are used for or interpretation (hidden meaning). Roland Barthes proposed this idea. Roland Barthes was a French literary theorist, essayist, philosopher, critic, and semiotician. Barthes' theory focused on reading signs and their hidden meanings. It focused on their interpretation by different cultures or societies. Suggesting that the physical form of a sign can be interpreted to have a hidden meaning, used to signify something. He uses the example of a photograph of his mother. The photograph corners were faded signifying his mother is dead but still has a great love for her for he still has the picture.
