Preliminary Exercise 5: Introduction to Color in Film - Black/White and Warm/Cool Colors

This part of the assignment was very important to understanding color. White and black plays a big deal in film. There are many black and white movies, including movies from the time color in film already existed. For example, the lighthouse is a very popular black and white movie made in 2019. Black and white in film are mainly used to create mystery and suspense. It helps to build the atmosphere, tone, and contrast from the real world. Warm/Cool colors help to reinforce a sense of warmth in the plot. No matter what shade or tone of the color, it's always used as a symbolism.

In this part of the PowerPoint, we had to analyze the importance of black/white and warm/cool colors in film. We included where the picture was from and what the genre of the movie is. We also made sure to include how the color helps to convey the genre.  We included how the color affects the mood and tone of the scene. The most important apart was to explain what the color symbolizes. For example, pink symbolizes her innocence. Black symbolizes mystery in black panther because of the hidden identity. Color can symbolize many things, but it depends on how the cinematographer uses them.

This part of the PowerPoint was very simple to do. Since we have already gotten into the depth of color and it’s importance in film, this was just practice. I feel confident in my ability to analyze color, which helps me in component 3. I also feel confident in me and my partner teamwork. We can both trust each other in doing our share in the work, which I am really glad for. Overall, this assignment taught me how important color is something I should make sure to emphasize in my movie.

Welcome To My AICE Media Studies Blog!

Welcome Everyone,    Today I will be talking about Media Studies. Media studies is important to study because it helps us understand the motives or intentions behind a media product. What I mean by this is that it is easier to find out the meaning of a media text or a post. For example, when I watch a movie just by the first two minutes, I already know who it was intended for and what direction the plot is going at. It also helps me to choose what media platform I use more wisely. Studying media studies taught me what someone's intended effect is for their media product. For example, when scrolling through TikTok or Instagram, you will see a variety of different users. Some just do it for the likes and others do it fun, while some want to spread awareness of a certain topic. My favorite media product are movies. Watching movies keeps me entertained and at the same time helps me to relax. I feel like most teenagers would like to watch movies because it's a way for...

Pre-Production: Planning Document

Welcome everyone,     Every movie must have a production company logo design, so we created our own too. We chose to call our production company Cherry Blossom Production. We came up with this design because we wanted to show our creative side by having a contrast. We wanted to see how we would be able to turn a somewhat childish name into a horror/thriller movie. Which I believe we succeeded in. We added the text in red with a creepy front. We included a cherry blossom tree as a logo but changed it so it can have a mysterious tone to it. We wanted to convey the message that not everything is what it seems, to create suspense and mystery.

Preliminary Exercise (Activity 3): Setting

Setting is such an important concept to know. It’s more than just the time and place a story occurs in. It helps to create the mood, genre, and even influence the characters’ decisions. It’s also important to know that the setting can change throughout the plot. Setting elements are time period, location, climate, landscape, culture, social and economic status, and moral attitudes. The purpose of setting is to indicate time and place, stress the atmosphere of a place, reveal the codes of characters, create a mood, influence characters’ decisions, reinforce genre, and demonstrate a director’s style.    For this assignment we had to create a PowerPoint about analyzing an opening scene for a movie we chose. This is the second part of the assignment. For this part we had to analyze the setting in the opening scene of hustle. The opening scene consists of multiple areas, since it’s about a basketball scout traveling around the world to recruit someone. It included places such...
