Final Film

Hello everyone,    Here is the final version of my opening film. Creating this movie has been a lot of fun and educational at the same time. I am so grateful I got the chance to learn many things about the filmmaking process that I can even use in my daily life.  Me and my partner worked really hard to make this film, so I hope you enjoy it.

Post-Production: Editing

Editing is a very difficult process to do, which for me has been one of the hardest things to do. Me and my partner have been making some new changes to our almost finished film. This required me to change little things, but it still takes a long time. Here are some things we changed: We added a different background music. We found a different sound that we felt it sounded scarier and flowed better with our movie. Adding more credits. Removing the news report scene, this scene caused our storyline to change a little bit. We replaced the news report scene to make Jessica run back home and explain to her mom what just happened.  We changed our hook to show the killer opening the door to Jessica's house. This scene required me to add sound effects of a door opening and turning up the volume for the background music.

Post-Production: Editing

Hello everyone,    Now that we had to change our movie a bit, we also had to film new scenes. These scenes consisted of Jessica (Main Character) talking to her mom in a bratty way. We chose to add this scene to add relatability. Our target audience are teenagers, so this scene will engage them more as this is a typical stereotype of teenagers in movies. Here is the new scene:

Post-Production: Peer Feedback

Welcome everyone,    During media studies class we had to peer review. We showed our first draft of our movie to another group. We also had to peer review their movie too. I was really glad we got to do this as we received good criticism. We were told that we needed to add more context into our movie and to have a better hook. They told us when adding context to the story, we should add more insight to our main character. So here are the things we are going to change: When showing the production company logo and title we will add music in the background. In the beginning of the movie instead of jumping straight to the park scene, we will show Jessica (the main character) and her mom having a conversation. The conversation will consist of a stereotypical teenage conversation by showing her mom being worried about Jessica going out late. Jessica acts like a bratty teenager and will slam the door when she leaves. In the end instead of having the news report scene we will show Jessica run

First Draft Opening Film

I have finally finished the first draft of my opening scene. The movie is a thriller called locked up. It’s about two friends hanging out at a park late at night. They receive a notification about a serial killer on the loose. The serial killer decides the kidnap Jessica while killing her friend, Mariana. My teammate was the main character, Jessica. After I got all me shots I had to edit them. It was very difficult, but exciting at the same time. I had to create my own sound effects by using voice memos and I used an app called wevideo to edit the movie. I hope you enjoy my movie.

Post-Production: Sound Editing

Hello everyone,    Sound editing in film involves the process of finished sound in films. This process involves these three main elements: recorded dialogue, sound effects, and music into a complete, organized soundtrack. This involves editing the length of audio, adjusting the volume, balancing the sound elements, and applying sound effects.     We incorporated sound effects in our movie by including music, an alarm, a voiceover, and sound car effects. To include the voiceover, we used voice memos to record it and then we uploaded it the computer. I then arranged it to fit well with the flow of the movie when I edited it into WeVideo. WeVideo had a lot of audios to choose from. So, I would simply choose the sound effect I needed and added it to the film.

Post-Production: Visual Editing

Hello everyone,    Editing in film is a process that consist of arranging and modifying the shots taken from production. This used to create a finished film. It allows filmmakers the ability to craft a story and control the pacing to keep the audience engaged. The main purpose of this is to make sure the filmmaker idea/story are presented to the audience in a clear way.     Me and my teammate used editing to approach storytelling by including the title, credits, company production logo, color, and theme. To do this I used WeVideo as my editing tool. Here I was able to cut some scenes and add transitions, so my scenes casually flowed with the next scene. I added some Jump cuts to keep my audience engaged.     Since my group just consisted of me and one other person, we decided for me to be the primary editor. I did all of the editing, but if I had a question, I would ask my partner to help me. For example, I would ask her which type of transition she would like better or when I should

Production: Production Week

Hello everyone,    I will be showing you our fourth day of production. This was our final day of filming. We just had to do two things. We had to film one more scene and then redo one of our scenes from the previous days. Since it was just two scenes, we stayed there only for fifteen minutes. Here are some of our clips:

Production: Production Week

Hello everyone,    I will be showing you our bloopers for our third day of production. These bloopers mainly consist of our actors forgetting their lines. Hope you enjoy!

Production: Production Week

Hello everyone,    This was a second day of production week. We were able to get a lot of work done and are almost ready to start editing. We had less bloopers than the first day which is good. I did not expect that being a camera person would be hard. The tracking shot was pretty hard to film as I had to squat and walk while filming. We also had some difficulty with lighting, but we were able to fix it with a flashlight and when we start editing it. Here are some bloopers.

Production: Production Week

Hello everyone,    Today I will be showing you our first production day. We had a lot of bloopers. Despite this we were able to get down with half of our scenes. I hope you enjoy some of our bloopers. Thid is where we filmed. Our First Take Our Second Take

Pre-Production: Film Pitch

Hello everyone,    A film pitch is when the screenwriter presents a movie idea to people who can produce it and help finance it. It is important to pitch a movie to an audience before producing a film because it gives you an idea of the movie will succeed. The people who you produce your movie will give you feedback and critics for your movie. This helps you to fix your movie, so it would be a movie that could succeed in the film industry. Film producers engage with their audience by representing them. For example, if you want to target teenagers as your audience then you will showcase teenagers in your movie. To recognize a film opening convention you would see the credits, protagonist, antagonist, exposition, and mise en scene. Most likely you would see an establishing shot and be introduced to a conflict.  This is what our movie is about. This the feedback that we had received from another group.

Pre-Production: Planning Document

Hello everyone,    For this part of our planning document, me and my teammate created an arc shot list. This is where we would state how each major scene would look like. To do this we added the type of camera shot size, shot angle, composition, framing, movement, and sound. We also included the action line. This will help us plan out each major scene, so we will be prepared during filming days.

Pre-Production: Planning Document

Hello everyone,    In this part of the planning document, we created a save the cat beat sheet narrative structure and exposition. Save the cat beat sheet is essentially a scene-by-scene outline. For the opening scene of our movie, we included four beats. The four beats were the opening image, theme, stated, set-up, and the hook. This will help our movie to be engaging and suspenseful. Exposition is very important too as it helps to emphasize the background information that the audience needs to know so they will be able to understand the plot.

Pre-Production: Planning Document

Hello everyone,    In this section of the planning document, we defined our main character, supporting characters, and setting of the world. We wanted to make our characters diverse, so we can target a wider audience. We also described the characters personality and costumes. To define the setting we stated the place, time period, landscape, tone, and social economic status. This part is very important in the making of our movie as we need to make sure it's clearly stated.

Pre-Production: Planning Document

Hello everyone,    In this part of the planning document me and my teammate developed the film opening, film pitch, and a logline. The film pitch is very important in this part as it will give us feedback in our movie. We had to state in a clear organize way on what our movie is going to be about. The logline is basically a one sentence summary of our movie. This document will help us stay organized during our making of our movie.

Pre-Production: Panning Document

Hello everyone,    In this part of the planning document, we had to consider the general information of our movie. We had to analyze who our audience are and how we would engage them. Our target audience are teenagers, and we plan to engage them with choosing our characters to have similar demographics. We also stated our film crew and cast. This part was important for me and my teammate to do, since it planned our movie. This would keep us organized.
