Preliminary Exercise (Activity 3): Acting

Hello everyone,

As many know already, acting plays a huge role in film. When there’s bad acting in a movie, the movie is immediately rated poorly. Acting refers to the art of human representation or interpretation of a character. This is also the most obvious element to observe and analyze. Acting can be analyzed by the manner of their voice, body, and face. Actors portrays a character through their appearance, facial expressions, body language, voice, and mannerisms. The three main styles of acting are classical, naturalistic, and stylized/non-naturalistic. Classical acting focuses on control and precision, rather than emotion orientated. Naturalistic acting is more subtle and realistic. Stylized acting is when their acting is exaggerated.

For this part of the PowerPoint, we had to analyze the acting in the opening film. For this part I worked on it with two other people. I did the definitions of acting and its elements. While the other two each picked a character from the movie and analyzed the acting elements. We had to look for both visual and audio codes to help us analyze the acting. Most of the acting done in this film were naturalistic acting. We could tell this from their subtle smile and relaxed facial expressions. Their movements and gestures were also very subtle and seemed as they were having a normal conversation as you would see in real life.

While acting is very important for film, I also feel like in my case this concept is not as important to know. I feel like Cambridge is more focused on us applying the concept of camera angles, framing, and mise en scene. These things are what Cambridge wants us to know. I feel like our acting has to at least be in mediocre level. This is why I feel like the concept of acting is not that important to know for making my movie.

Welcome To My AICE Media Studies Blog!

Welcome Everyone,    Today I will be talking about Media Studies. Media studies is important to study because it helps us understand the motives or intentions behind a media product. What I mean by this is that it is easier to find out the meaning of a media text or a post. For example, when I watch a movie just by the first two minutes, I already know who it was intended for and what direction the plot is going at. It also helps me to choose what media platform I use more wisely. Studying media studies taught me what someone's intended effect is for their media product. For example, when scrolling through TikTok or Instagram, you will see a variety of different users. Some just do it for the likes and others do it fun, while some want to spread awareness of a certain topic. My favorite media product are movies. Watching movies keeps me entertained and at the same time helps me to relax. I feel like most teenagers would like to watch movies because it's a way for...

Final Film

Hello everyone,    Here is the final version of my opening film. Creating this movie has been a lot of fun and educational at the same time. I am so grateful I got the chance to learn many things about the filmmaking process that I can even use in my daily life.  Me and my partner worked really hard to make this film, so I hope you enjoy it.

Preliminary Exercise 5: Introduction to Color in Film - Secondary Colors

As I have mentioned in the previous blog, color in film is very important. Color is separated into multiple categories such as, primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors, cool colors, and black/white. Today I would be focusing on secondary colors. Secondary colors are green, orange, and purple. Color in film is used to evoke certain emotions from the audience. Could sometimes be used to juxtapose against one another to send a message, creating dramatic irony. Colors help to elicit psychological reactions, draw the attention to the importance of the details in a frame, set the mood and tone, and represent character traits.     For this part we got scenes from various movies that had the lighting as secondary colors. We analyzed the colors and explained as to why the cinematographer would add this specific color. We also made to sure to explain what the color was supposed to evoke from the audience. Such as if the scene was supposed to convey a pity, sympat...
