Preliminary Exercise 3B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

Now that I know what mise en scene is, I would be doing a bubble diagram. The objective of this assignment was to apply my understanding of how mise en scene codes and their relationship to the genre conversations of a film. Genre in film are categories that use narrative or stylistic components to define films. This is very important to the audience because it helps to determine the characters, plot, setting, and tone. The three genres that I am interested in are horror, comedy, and romance. Horror is intended to scare its audience by having some sort of physical violence or psychological terror. Comedy is intended to make its audience laugh. It’s mostly used to amuse or entertain its audience by exaggerating the situation in a humorous way. Romance is when there is a love story between characters. I am interested in these genres because it gives me a lot of room to work in.

The media text that I created was a poster. I try to add some cool designs to attract my audience. The goal of this assignment was to create a bubble diagram to illustrate mise en codes for a specific genre. This was to describe how the codes of mise en scene comes together to create a meaning or the audience. Me and my partner picked the genre horror, which was a great help for us since we are planning to do a horror movie. We were able to focus on each element of mise en scene, making it easier for us to analyze mis en scene in a media text. We learned how specific colors demonstrate danger, for example red being one of them. We also learned our strengths and weaknesses. For example, my partner focuses more on the research. While I like to focus on the design. This is how we split up the project. Overall, the project was a great help to focus on each concept of mise en scene, but also getting to know my teammates.

Welcome To My AICE Media Studies Blog!

Welcome Everyone,    Today I will be talking about Media Studies. Media studies is important to study because it helps us understand the motives or intentions behind a media product. What I mean by this is that it is easier to find out the meaning of a media text or a post. For example, when I watch a movie just by the first two minutes, I already know who it was intended for and what direction the plot is going at. It also helps me to choose what media platform I use more wisely. Studying media studies taught me what someone's intended effect is for their media product. For example, when scrolling through TikTok or Instagram, you will see a variety of different users. Some just do it for the likes and others do it fun, while some want to spread awareness of a certain topic. My favorite media product are movies. Watching movies keeps me entertained and at the same time helps me to relax. I feel like most teenagers would like to watch movies because it's a way for...

Hello everyone,    Here is the final version of my opening film. Creating this movie has been a lot of fun and educational at the same time. I am so grateful I got the chance to learn many things about the filmmaking process that I can even use in my daily life.  Me and my partner worked really hard to make this film, so I hope you enjoy it.

Preliminary Exercise 5: Introduction to Color in Film - Secondary Colors

As I have mentioned in the previous blog, color in film is very important. Color is separated into multiple categories such as, primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors, cool colors, and black/white. Today I would be focusing on secondary colors. Secondary colors are green, orange, and purple. Color in film is used to evoke certain emotions from the audience. Could sometimes be used to juxtapose against one another to send a message, creating dramatic irony. Colors help to elicit psychological reactions, draw the attention to the importance of the details in a frame, set the mood and tone, and represent character traits.     For this part we got scenes from various movies that had the lighting as secondary colors. We analyzed the colors and explained as to why the cinematographer would add this specific color. We also made to sure to explain what the color was supposed to evoke from the audience. Such as if the scene was supposed to convey a pity, sympat...
